User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:44.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/44.0 Build ID: 20160210153822 Steps to reproduce: After updating 38.6.0, my Thunderbird header looks similar to Firefox. My folders appeared but none of my email were present. I was not able to access any of the folders. I have disabled Avast. I have uninstalled both and Thunderbird and Firefox, downloaded Thunderbird and I get the same result. When Thunderbird was installing 38.6.0 it encountered an error, and would not load. I restarted my computer and Thunderbird looked OK. Then the download started again and this time finished. That is where I am now. Please help. 770-951-8850 Actual results: I'm using Win7.

Since the original note, I was able to RESTORE my computer to a earlier point, which loaded t'bird with 38.5.1 I quickly changed my update option to allow me confirm updating instead of automatic. Then I quickly turned off t'bird. That worked so I am now working ok. It did download 38.6.0, but I won't allow it to install.

Foolish of me, but I failed to record the exact error message. I believe is said Had encountered an error and did not load, etc. Overnight I was thinking that since I was able to back off 38.6.0 by using the System Restore, I have probably removed the entire issue...even in the registry. Sometime this morning I will try reloading 38.6.0. I will take all precautions by shutting down the anti-virus and all other programs to better isolate the issue. I will leave another note here afterwords. Thanks for offering to help. tom

Andre, I reinstalled 38.6.0 again. This time it finished installing saying t'bird restart was required. After restart I experienced the same problem as before. I have attached a screen shot of the t'bird display. None of my current messages displayed. However, I am able to Get Messages, Write Messages, No Chat and No Address Book. The attachment is capture.png. I am able to ask to Write and receive a disaply. From that display I can go to Tools, Options, Advanced, Update and changed my setting NOT to check for messages. At this point I am using T'bird ok, but am in limbo not able to use update. Damn, I just noticed that Update just downloaded 38.6.0. I will not install it. And, probably need a way to remove it. I don't know where the attachment is hiding in this program. thanks.

Same symptom as in bug 1249894. Can you please compress the extensions folder from your profile using Zip/7Zip/Rar and make it available to the Thunderbird development. We are still looking for a reproducible case. Also ready bug 1249894 comment #24 (quote): It would be also good to post basic information about your install, which would be the information in Help/Troubleshooting Information. You could post that as an attachment here, or email to rkent@caspia.com. Also mention what AV solution, if any, that you are using. The problem can be fixed easily but we need to capture the information first before we can assist you.

Just a reminder, I am using 38.5.1. I used System Restore to rollback from 38.6.0. I have 3 Profiles, but only the 2nd one has data. I have sent the compressed folder to mozilla@jorgk.com via WeTransfer. I have attached a screen capture PNG to show my 3 Profiles. Hopes this helps.
Thanks, we'll pursue it over in bug 1249894, comment #48. I looked at your extension data. There was one folder and nine .xpi files. I'd say it's safe to move the .xpi files back to the extensions folder, so you don't have to reinstall the add-ons. Just don't move {e2fda1a4-762b-4020-b5ad-a41df1933103} back ;-)
