Size the browser Window so that the URL bar drop down is about an inch long.

Move the browser window so that the right side of the URL bar dropdown is along
the right side of the screen.

Press the arrow on the URL bar to display the dropdown.

The dropdown displays in the wrong place.

Bug 120507 is the 3+ week older bug with its own attachment. No particular
positioning or sizing of the browser is required for the misplacing of the URL
dropdown. Mine is about 650 pixels wide with about 60 pixels between right frame
and edge of screen.

Why? The other is older, functionally identical, and has a screenshot demo.

I used to see this all the time. It's one of the reasons that I always disable
the dropdown (the other being grabbing keyboard focus). The dropdown would come
up way over on the other side of the screen, over some other app that was
nowhere remotely near the browser window.

This bug happens to me on my two machines on a daily basis. Therefore I keep a
known good copy of localstore.rdf that I copy over the corrupted version. This
always cures the symptom for some time.
Has anyone ever compared the two localstore.rdf files to figure out what went
bad?
Ok, finally gotten around to create a minimal localstore.rdf. As far as I can
see, the problem is: URLs in the location bar history that are longer than the
location window cause the location window to offset to the left.

This offset seems to be related to the length of the URL: It seems to be half
the difference of URL.length.pixels and Location.window.width.pixels.

e.g. URL is 200 pixels, location window is 100 pixels then the location window
will be offset (200 - 100) / 2 = 50 pixels to the left of the screen.

HTH
When I was seeing this (before I disabled the dropdown) I was typically seeing
the dropdown roughly 550-600 pixels to the left of where it ought to be (way
over on the other side of the screen). It's possible that some of the bugzilla
query urls I visit might be responsible for such a large offset -- I nearly
always have at least one bugzilla query in my history.

Confirm that Thomas Schoepf's hypothesis holds for my report bug 143598

Don't know what I did to cause it, but have seen this in windows (2002050308)
and Linux (2002031209). Think I have only seen with Modern theme but not sure. A
real annoyance. Fix by clearing nav history in preferences but it comes back
eventually.

this is fixed on the trunk now.

I still see this on 2002071004, and it has nothing to do with url length, so
it's not a dup of bug 130448.
