I visit youtube, go to any video and open the gui menu. Everything looks like it should in the menu, and it tells me which streams are available etc. When clicking on one, however, nothing happens. The menu closes, but no download starts.

With Firefox 57 only WebExtensions are permitted and are, by default, e10s compatible.
