Build ID: 20160210153822
Steps to reproduce:
Reply to all in email with multiple recipients named in style:
'John Doe (john@example.com)' <john@example.com>
which was produced by MS Exchchange on the other side and hit "send later" in offline mode.
Actual results:

After replying to this stuck mail and erasing the () part of "name", mail is sent OK.
Expected results:
Mail should be sent ;-)

Can you please attach the e-mail in question or at least copy the full From header here (View > Message Source).
We see
From: "MickeyMouse (micky@t-online.de)" <micky@t-online.de>
all the time and it works, so we need to understand why yours doesn't work. I'm also not sure about the single quotes you're showing.

I've sent two e-mails to
John Doe (john@example.com) <jorgk@jorgk.com>
and
'John Doe (john@example.com)' <jorgk@jorgk.com>
(typed into the To: field).
The resulting headers were:
To: "'John Doe (john@example.com)'" <jorgk@jorgk.com>
To: "John Doe (john@example.com)" <jorgk@jorgk.com>
I first sent them to the Outbox (<ctrl><shift>Send) and then sent the unsent messages.
Result: All working.
Please provide a test case that shows the alleged problem or I will close the bug.

Hello,
I did not reply for a while as I had problems replicating the bug - it just happened twice and never since my report. However, today, I managed to get "Alert" There are non-ASCII characters in the local part of the recipient address. This is not yet supported. Please change this address and try again.
This was after just hitting "reply" and "reply all" in offline mode and two mails got affected (see the attachments) - I hope no spambot is visiting this.
please, reopen the bug.
George

Sample mail #2 (attachment 8740288 [details]) doesn't have any parenthesis in the To for From fields. So why did you attach it? The bug summary reports problems with "(" in the address.
I did a "reply all" on the other e-mail (attachment 8740287 [details]) while in offline mode. The e-mail went to the outbox. After going online, it was sent without problem.
So I can't reproduce the problem here.
I don't see how adding parenthesis to an e-mail address would change the send behaviour.

Mail 2 got stuck in outbox as well, so I just included both. Strange. Do you have any suggestion how to track the bug further on ?

You've just changed RESOLVED/INVALID to VERIFIED/INVALID, meaning, it's still resolved, and it's even verified that it's invalid. That makes no sense.
I don't understand what your complaining about: The e-mail not being sent or the error "There are non-ASCII characters ...". The latter was fixed in bug 1224600. This will be released in TB 45.

Yes, use TB 45 beta or the new release TB 45 coming out the week or next week.
For Windows or Mac users this is easy to do, Linux with it package management makes it more difficult. However, I managed to install a TB 38 beta once on a Linux system.
If you can't install it from here:
https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/beta/all/
you could try this:
https://launchpad.net/~mozillateam/+archive/ubuntu/thunderbird-next
Or just wait a few weeks.

I am not sure what the original error message was. However, if both emails went through in your recent TB version, it may be fixed regradless of the source. I am not on Ubuntu, but Debian Jessie, so I'll have to look around for the fresh builds of TB 38 beta.

Sorry, misunderstanding.
I managed to install a TB 38 beta once on a Linux system ... once upon a time in mid 2015.
You'd have to look for TB 45 beta or course.
