User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.0; rv:44.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/44.0
Build ID: 20160210153822
Steps to reproduce:
Appologies ifI have chosent he wrong component from list.
This webpage:
https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/all/
Release notes say version 38.7.0 is now released.
Actual results:
When you hover over a download link, it says version 38.7.0.
However, the download is version 38.5.0.
This was the same problem with the release of version 38.6.0.
The download actually downloaded version 38.5.0.
This problem still exists and I'm getting queries in the Support forum about the download being inaccurate.
Expected results:
I would expect:
*the version number to be written clearly at the top of the webpage. Currently there is absolutely nothing as this was removed not long back.
*the actual download to match the hover link info as displayed in the status bar.
*the download to match the release notes.

Looks like the links have already been updated.

Component: Mozilla Community Sites → Product Details
Product: Websites → www.mozilla.org
Resolution: --- → FIXED
Version: unspecified → Production
Then why are those links downloading version 38.5.0 when the hover over says 38.7.0 ?
I've just retried and it is not downloading the correct version and I'm not the only person as this has been brought to my attention

Image showing that the download states it is 38.5.0.
when I install it says 38.5.0
then I have to update after installing.
It should be 38.7.0

I think you are just seeing a cached page. Reloading the page with Ctrl+Shift+R works for you?

I'm rather seeing the insecure connection error when I click one of those download links. Filed Bug 1257214 for that.
no, not a cache issue :)
I am running Vista, so perhaps this page explains what is going on in my case.
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/get-latest-version-thunderbird-windows-xp-vista
But in the Support forum, a MAC user sees version 38.6.0 not 38.7.0, so perhaps there is a similar situation.
However, I can easily downloaded version 38.6.0 or 38.7.0 from here with no issues, so I've no idea why it should not be available via the main download page.
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/releases/
Could the version currently being released be mentioned on the main download webpage along with a link to the page explaining why XP and Vista and MAc may see a differnt download option?
This would clear up future queries by users.
Update.
I'm on the release channel.
Help > About Thunderbird
says I'm on 38.7.2 and up to date.
Clearly I'm not up to date Version 45 has been available for several days.
Go to main website page and it says version 45 released on 12th April.
hover over the English British windows download link and it says download for version 45 in Status Bar.
TRy to download and it still will not download anything above 38.5.0
Unfortunately, you cannot simply manually update after downloading as version 38.5.0 will only offer updating to 38.7.2 after which it claims to be up to date.
Something has to be amiss. I've been getting auto updates for years and also able to get from main webpage, but nothing works after version 38.5.0.
version 45, just like previous releases is only available here:
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/releases/
Why is 45 not available on main webpage?
Why is 45 not available via auto update after installing 38.5.0?
Why is only 38.5.0 still available via main page?
An explanation would help.

If you are a Vista user, yes, 45 cannot be downloaded directly from www.mozilla.org as the knowledge base article explains. The download links are confusing, but it's an expected behaviour.

I don't know why the automatic update has been disabled. Needinfo'ing Wayne.

It was indeed disabled intentionally. That has changed in the past week, updates were enabled. And last night we disabled them pending some decisions involving the next point release.
