User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:48.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/48.0 Build ID: 20160319030558 Steps to reproduce: Visit about:reader?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.mozilla.org%2Fde%2Ffirefox%2Fdesktop%2F Click the "Narrate" icon and let it read from the top of the page Make sure Voice: German (de) is used Actual results: Firefox is pronounced like "Fear a fox". Expected results: The English pronunciation should be used, just like e.g. for Voice: Italian
Component: Reader Mode → Web Speech
Product: Toolkit → Core
This depends on the voice and engine used and is not a bug related to Firefox. I am tempted to close this with WONTFIX.
I tend to agree. The alternative would be a speech dictionary preprocessor that is language *and* speech synthesizer voice specific. And even after 20 or 30 years, most commercial and open-source screen readers still struggle with this.
