Feedback from a developer who was debugging a performance issue in a web page, using Firefox dev tools: "Default sub-pane (waterfall) of the performance pane in developer tools is the least useful. The structural aspect of the flame chart, and the cumulative aspect of the call tree are more useful, not only because they offer richer data to look at it. But, also as a navigational aid for the data. The more interesting sections of the waterfall data are more difficult to notice at a glance, in the absence of the additional dimensions available in the other views."

I think this would be a good thing to discuss and get user feedback on. I'm not sure what the discussions have been so far on the default view. My personal default is the flame chart.

I'd probably like to hold off from any changes in the short term as Jordan Santell and Victor Porof are both off doing Project Tofino right now.

Now that we replaced the old performance panel by the Firefox Profiler (see Bug 1668219) we're closing bugs related to this. If you see similar issues on the new profiler, please file another bug, and we'll be happy to have a look.
