Facebook.com in messaging views allows the pasting of arbitrary image data from the clipboard (like PrintScreen button captures), and sends them to the recipient as an image upon pasting (Ctrl-V works, as does right-click + Paste).

Facebook does only seem to offer this functionality to Chrome (it even works in Edge!) - but not in Firefox (tested in dev. edition). Firefox surely supports the API, though, as other sites (like Twitter's tweet editor) do support image data pasting in Firefox, too.

Indeed, that comment applies here too. They could use a hack to work around our lack of sufficient API support (but I'd really like to see us ship the missing parts instead..)

I was able to reproduce this in Firefox 45. As reported it works fine in Chrome but not in Firefox.

STR:
1) Find a cat picture and copy to clipboard
2) Navigate to: https://www.facebook.com/messages/
3) Find a contact and click on the 'Write a Reply' text field
4) Paste picture from clipboard into text field

Expected Behavior:
Image upload begins

Actual Behavior:
Nothing

I'm tempted to make this a dupe of bug 891247 but let's leave it open in case there's work to be done on their side after we fix bug 891247.

("fixlater" means "sooner than backlog but now a super-urgent regression or crasher")

This now works for me on desktop in nightly [50.0a1 (2016-07-14)] on Windows 10.
