Trying to play a video on Netflix on Firefox Nightly results in a black content area with no video playback. I get the same behaviour with e10s enabled or disabled. CCing Roland Tanglao as he brought this bug to my attention. Steps to Reproduce: 1) Load netflix.com 2) Sign in and find a video to play 3) Click the play button on the video 4) Click to activate Silverlight upon request Result: All I see is a black content area. Expected Result: The video should load and start playing. [Tracking Requested - why for this release]: This is a regression in Firefox 48 that breaks Netflix on Mac. Given the high profile nature of Netflix and the potential for an issue like this to make us lose users I am going to suggest that we block Firefox 48 on this issue, not just track it.

This might be a dupe of bug 1261620.

I expect that this was fixed by bug 1261416, but assigning/blocking to make sure. This is something we should verify is fixed before we roll out to aurora.

The fix in bug 1261416 only affected Windows, this is OS X only. I'm not sure why this is broken, I'm still investigating.

Presumably because the Widevine CDM is looking for "plugin-container". Why did we make bug 1261416 windows-only? Hacks around the binary name are going to be common for both NPAPI plugins and GMP.

Netflix uses Silverlight on OS X, not Widevine.

I'm going to close this as invalid because the bug that caused this was backed out, and we're likely to take a completely different approach if we try to fix that bug again.
