User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:46.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/46.0
Build ID: 20160404120533

Steps to reproduce:

Open Locale metrics of any locale:
* https://support.mozilla.org/kb/dashboard/metrics/sl
* https://support.mozilla.org/kb/dashboard/metrics/sr
* https://support.mozilla.org/kb/dashboard/metrics/de
* https://support.mozilla.org/kb/dashboard/metrics/lt
* ...

Actual results:

The first two graphs (Localization Percentage and Active Contributors) don't work as expected (the first one shows a very short period of time and the second one shows nothing).

Expected results:

The graphs should show data for the selected period of time (6 months or so).

Looking at the way graphs cause us problems to generate and have a functional UI around, would it be a better solution to have links to raw data for these values (or a formatted table that shows numbers in a grid, instead of a graph)?

I assume that the generation of tables fails due to issues with using existing database data, but I'm not 100% sure if that's the case.

Giorgos, is this something you could help us disentangle (at least conceptually)?

Cheers!

I believe that those metrics dashboards rely on ElasticSearch to process and extract data. The current status of Kitsune's ES implementation is rather poor, since we're relying on very old and unsupported python bindings which connect to a ESv2 database in "legacy" mode. A functionality used extensively in metrics called "facets" has been replaced with "aggregations" in v2 and we know that this breaks some things.

Without having deep knowledge of the dashboards mentioned in this bug I'd say that the fix involves ES upgrade and much re-write / fixing here and there.

Thank you for that explanation, Giorgos!

This feature may be going away or be reworked into a different type of dashboard, based on the platform investigation by Arielle and Madalina.

Reassigning to Madalina as something that may be closed out depending on the final resolution.
