Along with the context menu mentioned in bug 126718, it would be useful to add a
Show Status Bar menu item, off by default. This would expose the link location,
security icon, progress bar, and offline indicator.

Resetting milestone and severity for retriage based on bug 127032 being a
duplicate. This is a major privacy issue -- a malicious website can simply go
into fullscreen (and go back into fullscreen in the onResize handler of the body
so that it stays in fullscreen), thus blocking user access to information on
whether the site is secure.

Summary: [RFE] Full-screen: Ability to show status bar → Full-screen: Ability to show status bar (so you can see security icon)

And, if you show the status bar, could you call it full screen anymore? And who
will use full scree mode with an ugly status bar undeneat it. The idea of full
screen mode is for presentation purposes. This software is not used only by web
surfers.
That's why I said, "it would be useful to add a Show Status Bar menu item,
_off_by_default_"
How about we add a menu arrow right in between the go and search buttons and the
mozilla throbber. There, you have something similar to what IE offers in its
full screen context menu. Including "Enable Status Bar", "Enable Menu Bar", and
so on. Yes, some do want this. Just have it off by default.
and have some way to show secure sites as stated in my bug Bug 127032

How about just sticking the security icon permanently in the full screen bar
next to the Mozilla icon throbber?

No. The security icon is a status icon; the full screen (tool)bar is a button
bar. The security icon thus belongs to a status bar, which is supposed to be at
the bottom.
I think you are making false distinctions. Why does the security icon have to
be in the status bar at the bottom? That is just an arbitrary location, and
there is nothing special about it. By you reasoning, the Mozilla icon should be
in the status bar as well since it shows the "status" of the page loading.
There is plenty of room in the full screen bar and it would make sense to put
the security icon there.

considering the lack of icons in the toolbar if people care about the security
icon we can follow n4's lead and put it into the toolbar.

I want the status bar so that i can see where i'll go when i click on a link.
and I can do this in ie. Note that mail has created the art required for
security icons in the toolbar, so this wouldn't be a big challenge.

But the tool bar can be hidden, too?
Do you want it to appear it in both, to make it "less likely" a user won't see
any lock icon?

Considering the several opinions stated here concerning which bars should be
displayed in full-screen mode. I suggest a solution similar to the configuration
of the navigation bar: an additional block or pane in the 'navigator' section of
the preferences dialog (since only browser windows can be displayed full screen)

-------------------------------------------
allowed toolbars for full-screen mode:
[x] navigation toolbar
[ ] personal toolbar
[x] statusbar
[ ] component bar
-------------------------------------------

[ ] hide sidebar when entering full-screen mode

(btw.: in full-screen mode it would be nice to have a slim version of the tab bar)

*the attached file has the same content as the following comment:*
in the process of fixing mozilla so that the status bar appears, the toolbar
could have optional autohide, as it may be completely substituted for keyboard
hotkeys and/or enhanced (multibutton) mouses

IMO, 315946 is a duplicate of 247587 which is a duplicate of 158308 (first posted in 2002!) but I don't think ANY of them are duplicates of THIS bug.

My expectations for FF's fullscreen mode are that it is similar to IE's fullscreen mode where Alt+V,B toggles the status bar!

I think the description of this bug does not make it clear that 126720 is the place to complain about the problem (the toggle not working); When searching, I first thought this bug (opened 2002!) was about ADDING the option to toggle the status bar in fullscreen, not about the toggle not working.
IE6 and IE7 both allow a status bar in full-screen mode.
Full-screen mode is especially useful on a wide screen monitor and I don't like giving up the functionality and security of the status bar when I go full-screen.
I think full-screen mode with a statusbar (and titlebar to show the page title as well!) would not be all that different from a maximized window.

That is why I say, the URL of the hovered link should be instead shown in a tooltip like in Opera.

(Actually I'm not sure what full-screen mode is useful for... maybe if it was really full-screen.)
Perhaps you should have a look at Fullerscreen <https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4650> by Daniel Glazman.

It hides by default any browser chrome but shows parts of it dynamically when the information is needed (like for example when pointing with the mouse a link, or when approaching with the mouse the upper or lower screen border).

This bug doesn't appear to be needed for Firefox now that Fx4 is doing away with the status bar and replacing it with the Add-on bar.

It also mixed up the UI elements for security (Larry Identity Panels) in the location bar which can be accessed in full screen mode since this bug was filed.

Also recently, Hover Links and Progress/Loading/Connecting Status was added as an Overlay that displays in fullscreen mode as well, in lower left of the screen.

And for further customizing, try this extension: Status-4-evar
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/status-4-evar/

Johann ... just my usual picking through old open privacy tagged issues ...

IMO we can close this. Ignoring the fact that the status bar no longer exists, when in full screen, the urlbar is visible on demand and the padlock shows the security status
