Steps to reproduce:

Typed a long comment up in Google+, or similar comment/text input field.
Went overwrite some text by pressing the INSERT key on my keyboard.
This is as far as I got before Firefox Crashed.


Actual results:

Upon pressing the insert key, Firefox immediately disappeared and a few seconds later the crash screen appeared. This is easily repeatable, it even happens with this very bug reporting form, so I'm being careful to avoid using the INSERT key.


Expected results:

The INSERT key should have toggled INSERT/OVER text typing/editing mode.

Firefox 46 uses GTK3 instead of GTK2, so there's a chance that works around this problem.

Installed the extended support release of Firefox from GSlapt.
Problem no longer occurs. Can confirm the GTK version is related to this issue.
Will be sticking to the slightly outdated version of Firefox for the time being.
