Now nothing happens. The program doesn't seem to respond to double clicks. Actual results: Nothing. Expected results: The message should have opened in a new tab or, depending on setting in Options, a new window

No problem here on TB 45 and Win10. Please can you try in safe mode (https://support.mozilla.org/kb/safe-mode)? If this work you have to check the extensions one by one. mnenhy could be a candidate for such issues.

I've got a PM from reporter: Thanks. You were right. One of the extensions (Maximize Message Pane) created the problem.
