Glitches at almost any website, e.g.: http://www.heise.de/ or http://www.spiegel.de/ Just do some fast scrolling. See Screenshots. Expected results: After disabling Smooth Scrolling it was ok. I guess this is related to the GTK3 introduction coming with Firefox 46.

I still had an older Firefox Developer Edition installed (version 46.0a2 (2016-02-16)), the bug was not present there. While I looked at it the Developer Edition was auto-updated to 48.0a2 (2016-04-29). In this version the bug is also not present. I also did disable e10s here to see if that makes a difference, but scrolling works fine in all configurations here => no glitches.

I do not know if this is related or yet another GTK3 bug, but even if Smooth Scrolling disabled I sometimes see artefacts: 1. Very often (every 5th I change tabs) the colors of the tab are broken too. See the attached screenshot. 2. Still, but much less frequent sill some glitches when scrolling.

I do not think this is a duplicate of Bug 878189. This here is about Linux and imo was introduced by the Firefox using GTK3 and not GTK2 now, whereas that bug is about Windows. Also, HWA makes no difference for me. It's just the "Smooth Scrolling" (SS). Without SS the flickering is much less, but very often the tab colors (highlighting is wrong) as shown in screenshot at attachment 8747279 [details] Anyway, I do not test with nightly because it is already not reproducable with Developer Edition. I have the same issue. Xubuntu 16.04, firefox 46. Previous firefox version with GTK2 was pretty fine along with Smooth scrolling.
BTW, it has nothing to do with HWA, only disabling SS helps.
@Ivan: Which hardware / graphics card do you use? I have an onboard "00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07)". Maybe you could paste the output of the lspci command here (or get the info from Ubuntu's System settings). I am removing the DUPLICATE, because as Ivan and me confirmed: this is definitely another bug here than Bug 878189

There is no layers.use-image-offscreen-surfaces under about:config. I also tried to search for similar spellings, no findings. Neither in stable Firefox 46 (where I have the bug) nor in Firefox Developer Edition (where I do not have the bug). Anyway, I added the preference manually and the bug still occurs in Firefox 46. Nicolas, any other idea?

I don't see the glitches anymore with Fx 47 (with smooth scrolling enabled again), so I am closing this.
