I've seen the "Update Notifications" panel and this made me thinking of a
"nightlies autoupdater". Wouldn't it be a good idea to write something like that
(maybe using CVS)?
my short answer to this request has always been 'no'.
the reason is that each component is usually updated so there's nothing to be
gained by offering this feature as it's quite possible that you need to upgrade
all components you have.

The "Update Notification" feature "notifies" you when a new build is available.
Using this for nightlies would be pretty pointless: you already know a new build
is available every day. Would make sense for milestones, though.
One thing we are getting going is wrapping the stub program in a .xpi, so it
will be possible to bookmark
ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/[....]/latest/mozilla-win32-installer.xpi to get the ball
rolling. If people like the default choices we could even hook up the "auto
mode" parameter so the native installer runs without prompting you through all
the wizard choices.
