User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; rv:46.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/46.0 Build ID: 20160502172042 Steps to reproduce: 1. Open Firefox 2. Select Full Screen from Menu 3. Close Firefox 4. Open Firefox Actual results: Firefox re-opened in non-full-screen mode Expected results: Firefox used to re-open in full screen mode if it was full screen when previously exited. This behavior seems to have changed somewhere around FF 43. Prior to that fullscreen was reliably remembered between sessions.
AFAIK, it has been removed a few versions back.

Xidorn, was this intentional? Bug 1137009? It's hard to tell from the commit message there. (also see: bug 1001648, bug 909439, ...)

Yes, that was intentional. There are various issues with the way we did this before Firefox 43, including: * crashes in DOM fullscreen ends up restoring to fullscreen mode (clearly undesired) * window opened in fullscreen mode directly might be broken after unfullscreen on OS X for us (bug 946768, bug 1207674) * the non-fullscreen window dimensions would be dropped You can see blocks in bug 1137009 for some more bugs that may have been fixed by not persisting it. In addition, it seems to me other modern browsers do not persist fullscreen state either. (Safari doesn't do this, Chrome doesn't do this, Edge doesn't have fullscreen mode at all. IE does this but it isn't counted as a modern browser now, right?) So given it isn't a highly desired function (since everyone else doesn't have it either, and I don't see many people complain about this, either), and the complexity to do it right, I'd rather we keep the current status and mark this bug WONTFIX for now. If Firefox team thinks it's worth fixing, please reopen this bug. You can probably try adding some code to set fullScreen attribute on the browser window at some point. Doing so should be less error-prone than restoring the window state directly.
