Description

This behavior can be seen on Linux but not OS X.

STR:

- Write some random text in an input or text area field
- Select one word or sentence by double clicking it.
- Click elsewhere on the webpage to 'focus' another area
- Click again on the previously selected text

Result: the previously selected text will appaear to be select for a splitsecond, and only then the cursor will appear where the user clicked.

It's not reacting this way on other platforms where the cursor immediately appear on the right place without having the previous selection remaining selected a splitsecond.
I think this is the wished behavior, or otherwise to return to the selected state.

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:46.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/46.0
Build ID: 20160502172042

I have tested your issue on latest FF release (46.0.1), latest Nightly build (20160518030234) and managed to reproduce it. I have typed some text here in Bugzilla text area section for comments and with double click I've selected the entire word. If i click outside the text area and focus it again, the typed in text is fractionally selected before the cursor jumps at the end of the word. This is not reproducible on all text areas or any input field. For example, this issue is not reproducible in the search bar of YouTube or Facebook.

Looking at your user agent, you reproduced it on Windows? Because I was reproducing on Linux where the cursor go where you click after this 'glitch', but was unable to reproduce it on OS X.
That's correct. I've Reproduce this issue on Windows 7 x32, so now we know that this issue is not related to Linux in particular. This reproduces exactly as you described, the cursor goes where I've clicked after the glitch, but apparently I've failed to mention that in comment 1.
