User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; WOW64; rv:46.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/46.0
Build ID: 20160502172042

Steps to reproduce:

1. Open the book mark view.
2. Search for a word say "Java"
3. Say you get one hit.
4. Now you want to know which bookmark folder this item belongs to.
Because: you want to add the current JAVA related page to this folder.
5. At present there is no easy way to do that.

6. Please add a new context menu item "Show in Bookmark folder" to a found book mark item in the found list for the search.

If you are a java/c/c++ developer and use Eclipse/Netbeans IDE, this is similar to the eclipse context menu item for a edit view, Show in "Navigator" or "package View".

Actual results:

Nothing happens, because you do not have such a context menu, for the
found bookmarked items, within the resultant found list.

Expected results:

It should show the selected found bookmark, in the book mark folder view, instead of the search list.

Justification: The whole point of search is to find a book mark quickly, the current search does that. But when you want to file a new book mark to a particular folder, you have to go through the nested folders, manually, looking for it, and then add to it. This process is NOT use friendly at all, and if you have lots of book mark folders and they are deeply nested, some times it is almost impossible to find that folder without a search.
This suggested menu item will allow you to relate your bookmark to a folder, within the search result. The search result view is flattened out and does not say which folder a particular item belongs to.
If it takes too much effort to convince your management, just add some kind of extension, or let me know if some 3rd party plugins are available to do this kind of
bookmark management.
I use the bookmark facility to manage all my book marks, also share across, my computers, which is very helpful. But I always have problem, to find existing folder to add my new bookmarks, using search.
Usually I drag the current URL at the top of the browser to the split bookmark folder view, on the left of the browser window.

2nd Option: (more work)
You can click on the URL, and have a context menu "Add to folder", that could
show a search window to the user. The search window could have a Tree view on the left and list view on the right. As you enter the search string it will show the matching bookmarks as flattened list, on the right view. When you click on one of the bookmarks on the list, it will highlight the corresponding bookmark folder on the left tree panel. Selecting a folder and clicking Ok for the dialog,
will add the current URL to that selected folder.

Suggested context menu name:
"Show in bookmark folder view"
or
"Show in tree view"

At present the following menu items are present in the
right click context menu, for a found bookmark list item.

e.g.
Open
Open in a New Private Window
Cut
Copy
Delete
Properties
This is the picture, which shows, what is proposed,
for the context menu item for a found item in the bookmark search list.
This picture shows what will happen when, the user selects "Show in Tree View"
context menu Option, on a particular book mark (e.g. Google Voice...),
in the flattened list, of the search result view.
Summary: Add context menu item, "Show in Bookmark Folder", for the found bookmark item. → Add context menu item, "Show in Folder/Tree View", for the found bookmark item.
Component: Untriaged → Menus
This is becoming urgent!
With the advent of WebExtensions and the deprecation of other APIs add-ons like "Go Parent Folder" are being abandoned by their developers.
Such a basic requirement, various bugs about the problem, this should really become a high priority.
And Google Chrome can do it ("Show in Folder").
I opened bug 1420247 about the same feature, but as WebExtension.
Jared, could you please help by getting someone to decide if it should be a Firefox feature or a WebExtension ?
Flags: needinfo?(jaws)
We could add this to the context menu but we wouldn't want to add it to the bottom. Most likely in a section right after "Open in a New Private Window". Users are known to give much higher visual time to the first and last items of a menu and this option isn't targeted for the majority use case.

According the Components for Firefox list https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/describecomponents.cgi?product=Firefox , this bug could be triaged in 'Menus' OR 'Bookmarks & History'. It is about a bookmark search result tree feature including a Context menu UI.
Marco & Jared, what is the best option for this feature to be implemented please ?

Marco, could you answer with Jared too the Comment 7 please ?
(sorry forgot that I could technically add both of your email at once while using the 'other' item of the needinfo drop list)

My comment 6 should already answer your question. I believe we should support this, but it is prioritized as P5 meaning that the bug "will not be worked on by staff, but a patch will be accepted".
