User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; rv:46.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/46.0 Build ID: 20160502172042 Steps to reproduce: Click on download link Actual results: File downloads onto Desktop AND auto-opens file Expected results: I have set download pref to "Always ask me where to save files". This setting is NOT respected. AND it should NOT open the download file automatically (Firefox did not used to do that...also do not see a setting to control this behavior....RATHER DANGEROUS!)

Summary: download preference is not respected → Download preference "Always ask me where to save files" is not respected
Actually, this may to be site dependent. For example: On http://MacUpdate.com I get the exact opposite - It always asks where to save a downloaded file, regardless of the Downloads preference setting. On http://moneywizapp.com/buy/ it always downloads to Desktop when clicking 'Mac OS X - FREE Download' regardless of what the preference is set ("Desktop" is recorded as the 'Save To:' location in my preferences) AND it auto-opens the DMG file downloaded (DANGEROUS). (Cannot retest this site at the moment because the download link is broken all of a sudden...will update once/if that changes). There was another site I got the same results as moneywizapp.com but unfortunately, not realizing it may a be site related issue, I did not note which one it was.
Summary: Download preference "Always ask me where to save files" is not respected → Download preference "Always ask me where to save files" or "Save Files To:" is not respected
P.S. In first example, 'Save To' location was set as "Desktop" P.S.S Yes I did try with both a clean profile and one with multiple add-ons...same behaviour.
Ok. so http://moneywizapp.com/buy/ download link is fixed, so am able to retry. Odd thing is that Firefox seems to have corrected itself. All links work as expected, with both clean profile and not. I have not changed anything. So at this time I am unable to reproduce the issue, even though it happened several times, including auto-open after download. I checked all settings, including Applications and nothing odd detected. very strange

P.S. Just to clarify, the only thing I did change, what the Download preference, back and forth between 'Save To' download folder, and 'Always ask...'. May that cleared something eventually.

Same bug in Firefox v. 99.0.1 on 5.15.32-1-MANJARO (64-bit) / KDE: 5.24.4

Downloads set to "Always ask you where to save files"

Attempting to download a PDF from Gmail results in it downloading to the system's default downloads folder and firefox opening the file

I have resolved the bug by setting browser.download.improvements_to_download_panel to false

With this change, clicking the download button opens the "Opening <filename>" dialog box, from which I can select "Save" and receive the file name/location prompt.

Seeing this on 103.0 (64-bit) on Ubuntu. Downloading PDFs from Gmail doesn't prompt for the location, despite "Ask where to save" being checked.

Severity: normal → S3

same problem here!

Still having the same issue. I have checked 'Always ask where to save each file', but everything gets auto-downloaded to the default folder. No location dialogue box opens up.
