User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:46.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/46.0 Build ID: 20160502172042 Steps to reproduce: Got reminder to upgrade version 44.x.x to 46.x.x. Went to menu, clicked ? icon, About Firefox, Upgrade button clicked but then cancelled download and closed Firefox. Upon immediate restart Firefox, now upgraded to 46.x.x Actual results: As above Expected results: Upgrade should have failed as no files were downloaded.

Hi In the Menu button (top right button), there is a ? icon at the bottom for the Help menu. Once you check for the current version, a button appears with comment "Upgrade to 46.x.x. No other text came up.
Just to verify, this was in the About window which is opened under "Help" -> "About Firefox" ? Please type about:config, click the button that is displayed, find app.update.enabled and app.update.mode. Provide the values for these two entries in this bug. Thanks!

Also, what did you do to cancel the download? Did you click the X in the upper right corner?
Yes, in the download window and then X closed Firefox as well
That just closes the window and updates resume downloading when you next start Firefox. The app update code already has the ability to cancel downloads but the Firefox About window doesn't utilize this code. Moving over to Firefox -> General since this would need to be implemented in the Firefox About window. Note: I don't need the values requested in comment #3
