1274865 - [e10s] Firefox can't display page already loaded without network connection

This happened as I was flying back from Taipei and was of great inconvenience.

I had loaded a few pages while still having network connectivity (pages I intended to look at while flying).

I had made sure all 4 pages were loaded and cached.

Unfortunately, when tabbing out of a loaded page and back, all I could see was now a blank page and the little spinner showing that the page was being loaded.

The content was no longer available. After tabbing to all the various pages, they soon were all white with only the loading spinner showing.

Worse, you could see that pages that were still loaded and hadn't been tabbed out would simply move up and down repetitively.

You can clearly see on that video that one of the page still pre-loaded (in the background) was jumping up and down repetitively, the page at the front was just blank (you can still see it jumping up and down, though it's harder to tell being just various shades of white)

Actually, I can't reproduce it consistently no. I did reproduce it once more after a few run just disconnecting wifi.

I should add that from time to time, moving back between tabs (already loaded ones), with network on, I do see that the same grey spinner on a blank page for a few seconds before the page is being redisplayed.

Looks like when this happen and the machine is offline, you see the problem I described above.

It feels that from time to time, something got optimised out, either something got suspended, memory flushed (just making wild guesses) that cause the tab not to be immediately available when being on top again.

I've been trying to reproduce this bug for the better part of the past two hours with no success. I installed the add-ons in jya's about:support, loaded pages which are relatively hard on content process; web gl demos, treeheader pages, large ad filled pages, etc.  Built Nightly in the background to consume CPU. Disconnected from the network both after selecting "File > Work Offline" and not.  I can detach tabs and re-attach them. During all this, Nightly Web Content CPU will rise up and settle back down, but never goes than higher ~25%. In every attempt to reproduce this bug, I get viewable pages, never a content spinner.

Jean-Yves, are you able to reproduce at all in Safe-Mode (Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled...)?  Also when you are experiencing this, what are the CPU numbers for Nightly, Nightly Web Content and any other process that appears to be consuming unusually high CPU?

Stealing jya's needinfo due to lack of response. I have seen this but when I do the content process is around the 3.5GB mark, this is with Firefox 32-bit on Windows 10. After switching to a 64-bit build about two months ago I haven't seen it since.

Sorry, was on PTO for this last month.

I can't reliably reproduce it. But I do still see it from time to time: when I switch to an existing, already loaded tab: a blank page with a little grey spinner appears briefly and the page reappear shortly after that.
It's under those circumstances that if there's no network connection the re-displaying of the page will not complete.

I'm on a Mac (so 64 bits)
