User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:46.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/46.0
Build ID: 20160502172042

Steps to reproduce:

I tried to delete one mail, then several others

Actual results:

Nothing happened, the mail wasn't deleted, not the others. I couldn't delete any mail

Expected results:

The mails should have been deleted and put in the Trash folder, which disappeared totally
Summary: In Thunderbird 45.1.0 version the Trash folder disappeared totally : it's impossible to put any mail in the Trash not to delete any. → In Thunderbird 45.1.0 version the Trash folder disappeared totally : it's impossible to put any mail in the Trash nor to delete any.
After deletion fails check if there is anything in Tools->Error console. Also the Trash folder disappeared from the list of folders? Is that on an IMAP or a POP3 server?
Many thanks
Yes,the Trash folder had disappeared from the list of folders (it's a POP3 server).
Actually I found the solution here (in French) on the Mozilla website "Thunderbird Help" :
https://support.mozilla.org/fr/kb/vous-ne-pouvez-pas-supprimer-des-messages
So I followed the guide and the problem is solved now.
Unfortunately I can't read French. So what was the problem?
The Trash folder was corrupted and had to be deleted. And here is the English page of support Mozilla :
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/cannot-delete-messages
Thanks again !
Do you recall which folder you deleted Trash, or Trash.msf - or both?

Also, was the file name really "Trash", or a French localization?

I experienced the same issue using TB-Version 68.10.0 with Ubuntu 18.04.
I did some very detailed analysis about the conditions the Trash-File in thunderbird gets lost!
Here are my results in short I found:

a) If the users puts one or more mails into the Trash and stops execution of thunderbird the normal way by closing the thunderbird-window,
thunderbird deletes the contents of the Thrash-File and keeps the Thrash-File in place.

b) If the user puts one or more mails into the Trash and stops execution of thunderbird by starting system shutdown then the thunderbird Trash-File gets lost.

So the issue is how the system shutdown stops the execution of thunderbird?
