I wonder if some sort of notice should be added that 52 will be the last TB release to support XP/Vista?
I'm not sure if this serves any purpose at this point, given that it's roughly a year out when ESR 52 would be finished. Relnoting that for the release which actually retires XP/Vista seems to be better (including the betas).

I've added:
Note that Thunderbird 52 is the last release to support Windows XP, Windows Server 2003 and Windows Vista.

The reference to the Yahoo protocol removal should probably give a reason (Yahoo completely changed its protocol) and possibly link to https://web.archive.org/web/20160730080614/https://help.yahoo.com/kb/yahoo-messenger-for-web/SLN26860.html.

Related topic on the support side, we will soon need the version 52 equivalent of https://support.mozilla.org/t5/Install-Migrate-and-Update/New-in-Thunderbird-45-0/ta-p/38985

So these all moved:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/new-thunderbird-38
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/new-thunderbird-45
https://support.mozilla.org/es/kb/novedades-en-thunderbird-450
That seems quite unfortunate. The "in product link" "What's new", at least in my Spanish TB 45.7, doesn't work any more. That's a crazy redirection via
pref("mailnews.start_page.override_url","https://live.mozillamessaging.com/%APP%/whatsnew?locale=%LOCALE%&version=%VERSION%&os=%OS%&buildid=%APPBUILDID%");

Andrei, in your TB 45, can you try Help > What's new? Does that work? Can you then download and install (to a different directory) a Spanish version of TB 45 and try the same: Ayuda > Qué hay de nuevo. That doesn't work for me, when it used to.
I'll be preparing the "What's new" page for TB 52 today, so we need to make sure that works for all localisations. I might help with the German and Spanish one, and I can let you know when it's done.

Right, that's because there's no Spanish What's New article.
https://support.mozilla.org/es-ES/kb/new-thunderbird-45 doesn't exist.
https://support.mozilla.org/es-US/kb/new-thunderbird-45 does exist.
I'm not sure I believe this EVER worked -- unless support.mozilla.org falls through to en-US when it doesn't find a translation, it never should have worked. Unless it used to and SUMO made a change on their side. We've been using the same URLs for a long time.
I don't know if these are supposed to ever get translated or if we can just redirect everything to en-US. Perhaps the SUMO folks know whether there is supposed to be language fall-through or whether or not we're using incorrect URLs or something?
I can investigate a bit tomorrow if you like.

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/new-thunderbird-45 is what I meant of course on the second line. :)

When linking to SUMO the url should not contain the locale, that will be detected by SUMO and filled as appropriate.
So the SUMO logic can apply to https://support.mozilla.org/kb/new-thunderbird-45 and redirect as appropriate.
https://support.mozilla.org/es-ES/kb/new-thunderbird-45c leaves no room for the SUMO locale detection. We3 do see issues at time with English versions in Spain say linking to the spanish versions of the web pages. So I assume at least some of the links are not absolute with regard to locale

Yes, there is since I wrote it. See comment #6.
Was at: https://support.mozilla.org/es/kb/novedades-en-thunderbird-450
Now at: https://support.mozilla.org/t5/Templates/Novedades-en-Thunderbird-45-0/ta-p/30929

You can believe what you want, but I have seen it working ;-)

Yes, please, since as I said, TB 52.0 is coming this week and we'll have similar articles in English, German and Spanish soon.

I visited https://support.mozilla.org/t5/Install-Migrate-and-Update/tkb-p/Install-Migrate-Update in order to write
"New in Thunderbird 52.0" and the first thing I noticed is that I couldn't log on any more. So I reset my password to the exact same password. Now I can log in. But I can't find where to add a new article. Looks like I was classified a "New Contributor". Jolly good.

Wayne got me going, but editing articles on the new SUMO is a real pain. My first draft is here:

Thanks, didn't know how this was supposed to work on SUMO.
I wrote a small patch to fix this issue. https://github.com/thundernest/live-redirects/commit/51fbc6e867eb5c04c8bd64efbf0a4bf2d6ad0c39 and https://github.com/thundernest/live-redirects/commit/3e0ffecd680834125974ef6ef3ad1bd041f4c222 fixes it for all versions of TB45 as well. I tested it in my version of TB.
Unfortunately my SVN account was disabled for inactivity so I can't commit it right this second, it looks like Fallen has been maintaining these redirects so I'll CC him here and he can take this account for the TB52 rewrites.
Can you double check this is good and then commit, Fallen? The fix is already live on my testing domain live.sancus.ca, you can change the pref to point to "https://live.sancus.ca/thunderbird/whatsnew/?locale=es-ES&version=45.7.1&os=WINNT&buildid=20170206074256" instead of live.mozillamessaging.com for testing.

SUMO article, I'm up to version 5:
https://support.mozilla.org/t5/Install-Migrate-and-Update/New-in-Thunderbird-52-0/ta-p/1371577/message-revision/1371577:5
The Lithium HTML editor is terrible, see bug 1345099. There doesn't seem to be a link to the overall article, so check the history to get to the latest version.

https://github.com/thundernest/live-redirects/commit/c7e4d82c2e0fa87926cc11ebabcc0d14cffbf8bd
I rewrote the redirects patch a bit, there is just one generic redirect now for all minor versions of TB45 to the whatsnew pages. This single diff contains all changes also.

This doesn't seem to actually work, unfortunately, https://support.mozilla.org/kb/new-thunderbird-45 404's and to make matters worse, it seems like this is a known bug, and Accept-Language rewrites are completely broken, among a number of other CRITICAL bugs tracked by https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1324400 most importantly https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1324426
So it seems like Lithium went live with COMPLETELY BROKEN language redirection. Not sure how that happened but um... we can kludge a fix here by linking directly to the articles with our own rewrites if you want.
Do we have a complete list of localized What's New translations for TB45 and 52?

Hmm, https://support.mozilla.org/kb/new-thunderbird-45 still works and so does https://support.mozilla.org/es/kb/novedades-en-thunderbird-450. What am I missing? - just click those links. From memory, there were 20 of them or so, sadly hard to guess. Here are some more I worked on:
https://support.mozilla.org/de/kb/neuigkeiten-thunderbird-45 and https://support.mozilla.org/fr/kb/nouveautes-de-thunderbird-450 (sorry, I can only speak four languages).
As for the 52 article: The English version isn't approved yet, there are no translations, so this will be an issue next week.

https://support.mozilla.org/kb/new-thunderbird-45 only works if your Accept-Language is set to en-US. If it's not set, it 404s, and if it's set to a different language, it redirects to the generic support page. See:
curl -IL https://support.mozilla.org/kb/new-thunderbird-45
HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found
curl -IL https://support.mozilla.org/kb/new-thunderbird-45 -H 'Accept-Language: en-US'
HTTP/1.1 301 Moved Permanently
location: /t5/Install-Migrate-and-Update/New-in-Thunderbird-45-0/ta-p/38985
HTTP/1.1 200 OK
curl -IL https://support.mozilla.org/kb/new-thunderbird-45 -H 'Accept-Language: es'
HTTP/1.1 301 Moved Permanently
HTTP/1.1 302 Found
Location: https://support.mozilla.org/t5/Mozilla-Support-English/ct-p/Mozilla-EN
curl -IL https://support.mozilla.org/kb/new-thunderbird-45 -H 'Accept-Language: es-ES'
HTTP/1.1 301 Moved Permanently
HTTP/1.1 302 Found
Location: https://support.mozilla.org/t5/Mozilla-Support-English/ct-p/Mozilla-EN
(note: I deleted a lot of the curl output so as not to spam the bug, full output: https://pastebin.mozilla.org/8981457)

Sorry, being 100% ignorant of the finer points, I just clicked those links in the browser (and they worked and redirected to the new SUMO pages).
