People

(Reporter: darylsautter, Unassigned)

Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; WOW64; rv:46.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/46.0
Build ID: 20160502172042

Steps to reproduce:

Enabled Cortana, and asked it questions which would then result in opening a web page in my default browser.

‘Use this search engine for searches from Windows’ is enabled in my settings.

Actual results:

Cortana opened an instance of Microsoft Edge and searched with Bing.

Expected results:

Cortana should have used Firefox, and the default search engine on there.

Hi Vincent, unfortunately this was an intentional change by Microsoft in a recent update to Windows 10. See https://blogs.windows.com/windowsexperience/2016/04/28/delivering-personalized-search-experiences-in-windows-10-through-cortana/ and http://www.businessinsider.com/microsoft-disables-google-chrome-firefox-cortana-windows-10-2016-4

It seems like it will remain this way unless Microsoft changes their mind. You can submit feedback to them to voice your opinion.
