Steps how to reproduce with  English SeaMonkey 2.45a1  (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:48.0)  Gecko/20100101 Firefox/48.0 Build 20160308001946  (Default Classic Theme)  on German WIN7 64bit:

0. Download / unzip testkit.zip
1. From Browser launch Composer via icon in Status Bar
2. From Composer open “testfile.xhtml”
3. Menu 'File → Save as …'
   Expected: Suggested name "testfile.xhtml"
   Actual: Suggested name "testfile.xht"
   Bad: without user action file will be saved as "testfile.xht"

a) Version of appearance:
a1) already reproducible with 2.8, xhtml IS in in selector for 
    file type                                                        :-(
a2) already reproducible with 2.5, no xhtml in selector              :-(
b) this does not look like a "limit file name extension to 3 characters"
   problem, for .html suggested file name ends with .html            :-)
c) this area is a mine field, every observation has to be checked
   for each SeaMonkey application, OS and other conditions separately:
c1) xhtml problem also does exist for SeaMonkey Browser and Firefox
c2) while "save as .html" works fine for Composer, Browser will
    cut trailing "l"
d) I know "Bug 992497 - "Save Page As" should use filename extensions 
   ".html" and ".xhtml", not ".htm" and ".xht"". But I am not sure 
   whether there can be a common approach (due to (c)).

    Gecko/20100101 Firefox/49.0 Build   20160527003002    (Default Classic Theme 
    or Modern, does not matter) on VirtualBox Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

Should I be able to see this with SeaMonkey 2.40?
If so, I can not.

For me REPRODUCIBLE with  English SeaMonkey 2.45a1  (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:48.0)  Gecko/20100101 Firefox/48.0 Build 20160308001946  (Default Classic Theme)  on German WIN7 64bit with testkit in Browser and Composer:
* Safe Mode
* newly created User Profile
* newly created User Profile in Safe Mode

Confirmed, on Win7, SeaMonkey 2.40.

XP reacts differently, is not affected.

Effect is still REPRODUCIBLE with installation of unofficial (by wg9s) De SeaMonkey 2.53.13 beta 1 pre Mozilla/5.0 (NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:68.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/68.0 Build 20220608203253 (Newly created User Profile Default Classic Theme) on German WIN10 64bit
