12769 - Fails to locate or load image with relative URL

I'm not sure whether this is really a useful bug report, but I've found
rendering problems on two different websites:

   1. The main page of salon (http://www.salon.com)

      Basically, the contents of the page appears too low.

   2. The "the week/the spin" page of slate (go to http://www.slate.com and the
       click on "The Week/The Spin"

        the word "clearDot" appears in various places where it clearly shouldn't
        (and doesn't on Mozilla"

   3. The login page on the NYTimes simply doesn't work.  I'm not quite sure
      why.  Just try to read an article, it will bring you to a page where you
      can either register or put in your password.  If you try to put in your
      password and click on enter, you're just brought back to the same page.

Problem 2 (http://www.slate.com) looks like a URL calculation bug.
The URL for "The Week/The Spin" page is:
http://www.slate.com/Spin/99-08-23/Spin.asp?show=6/28/99
and it has images coded as <img src="../../global/images/clearDot.gif">
I think Mozilla fails to calculate the correct location of this image.
If you use http://www.slate.com/Spin/99-08-23/Spin.asp instead (takes you to
the same page) the image is found. Could it be the "/" in the asp argument
that is the problem ?  (I am using build 1999-08-26-13-M10 on Win98.)

Problem 3 is a duplicate of bug 12771. Thus only problem #2 remains, changing
Summary to reflect that (don't know which Component, sorry.)
