Details
2/24 trunk build The publishing button showed up and the save button went away. The dialog behind the publishing button doesn't allow me to save to disk. Now I have to use the file menu "save as" item to do a simple local save. I know we have to make trade-offs, but every editor I know has a save button like we used to have and I'm concerned that more people will miss it than we realize. Do we still have the autosave feature? Does that prompt you to publish intermediate results? Seems like save is something to keep...

If you want to save a remote page, you can choose File | Save As... (like you would in the browser). If you are editing a remote page, and you want to save back to the server, publish is a reasonable expectation. If you are editing a local page, the toolbar does show Save button. If you are editing a new page (about:blank), the toolbar shows Save button. There isn't room on the toolbar to have both so we needed to have double-duty for that position. We are planning to monitor the feedback to confirm this functionality is acceptable.

I was *not* working on a remote file. I went to windows explorer and picked a file on my hard disk. I used the right click context menu and chose edit. The composer window opened with a publish button rather than a save button. Based on your description, I should have gotten a save button. --- Since we're making the toolbar usage confusing, I still think we should consider adding a "save" tab to the dialog or something. Adding Lori to the CC.
