1.) Visit: https://www.mozila.org/en-US/firefox/new/ 2.) Scroll down to the footer: There is a link that reads: "Firefox for Other Platforms & Languages" which links to /firefox/all/ Just below that however is form control that reads: "Other languages:" with a drop down to select a language. I think it may not be obvious that these two items do largely different things. The former is for selecting another language or platform to download Firefox and takes you to another page. The latter is for selecting the language the current page is displayed in. Both options may result in (hopefully) what thee user wants, but I wonder if it could be a bit clearer in terms of the language used? Could we perhaps change "Other languages:" to something like "View this page in another language:"? That's a bit of a mouthful, so we could probably find something better.

Hi- So I think we had a regression from some of the work described in https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1213372 But here's how the footer should look: 1. Delete the whole line of copy with "Tour...About" 2. "FIREFOX FOR OTHER PLATFORMS & LANGUAGES RELEASE NOTES" should be below "Privacy | Cookies | Legal" and in the same visual style with a pipe, not all caps and & 3. And I agree, Alex, that the "lanugage-related" copy is confusing, so let's change: a. "Other languages:" to something like "View this page in another language:" b. "Firefox for Other Platforms & Languages" to "Download Firefox for Other Platforms & Languages"

(In reply to Jennifer Bertsch [:jbertsch] from comment #2) > 3. And I agree, Alex, that the "lanugage-related" copy is confusing, so > let's change: > a. "Other languages:" to something like "View this page in another > language:" > b. "Firefox for Other Platforms & Languages" to "Download Firefox for Other > Platforms & Languages" Both of these options seem like they would result in fairly long strings, which is not ideal. I conferred with Craig and he made a nice suggestion: Change "Other languages:" to "Page language:". I think this works well and keeps the string short. Does this sound OK?

Does this sound OK? +1 Thanks Alex and Craig! I do wish we had a better way to explain what users can do on /all, but it seems like a complex ask.

Jen, What do you think of screenshot linked in the comment above, based on the proposal in comment 2? My only small concern is we're making the link to localized builds of Firefox harder to find again, as there is now nothing to distinguish it between the small privacy / legal links. I discussed these changes with Holly on IRC, and she also floated the idea of making this footer more in-line with the one on /firefox/products, e.g. https://cl.ly/00250D0F3b1w. This is a little beyond the scope of what we discussed in sprint planning, but is something we could accommodate with an extra point of weight if we think it's worth doing. Thoughts?

Hi Alex- I'm good using the /products footer on /new if you and Holly think it makes the link for /all easier to find. I'm also good adding a point and increasing the scope of this project in the current sprint. Thanks, Jen

Ok thanks - I'm going to rename the title of this bug to be more reflective of the work involved, as it's now more than a simple copy change. I'll also add an extra point for the task on Taiga. Fwiw, I don't think either design makes the link for /all easier to find. Holly was trying to address the overall look of the footer here, rather than the /all link. But I think this is likely best saved for another bug as we don't seem to be able to resolve it here.
Summary: Confusing language terminology in page footer → Redesign Firefox simple-footer to align with footer on /products.

New style footer is up on demo. Jen, Holly - can you please take a look and let me know if all looks OK / as expected? Thanks! https://bedrock-demo-agibson.us-west.moz.works/en-US/firefox/new/

As Alex said, I was mainly addressing the style concerns. I don't have enough background on the original ask to recommend anything that impacts the hierarchy or prioritization of the links. I think it's an added bonus to use this as an opportunity to consolidate the footer styles. My assumption is also that the footer links in this new style vs. very light grey font will draw more attention to the links, which includes /all. I think it looks good!
