RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 1284511

People

(Reporter: dsmith, Unassigned)

Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:49.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/49.0
Build ID: 20160622004014

Steps to reproduce:

Nothing in particular. Generally reading a document, possibly 20-30 minutes of just scrolling the page.

Actual results:

Various warnings about scripts not responding. Some jquery scripts, some forum scripts, and some browser scripts.

Have lost records of the other script specifics, but can add this particular one:
Script: chrome://global/content/bindings/browser.xml:202

Obviously, if you choose to stop the script, that entire browser window becomes non-functional.

This has popped up periodically for 2-3 weeks, now.

No idea how to reproduce, as it just shows up randomly, though generally after at least several hours of browsing.

Expected results:

Scripts should run normally.
Also:
Script: chrome://browser/content/tabbrowser.xml:4238
Could you please provide us with more information, regarding the installed addons?

Also can you retest this using the latest Firefox release and the latest Nightly build (https://nightly.mozilla.org/)and report back the results? When doing this, please use a new clean Firefox profile, maybe even safe mode, to eliminate custom settings as a possible cause (https://goo.gl/PNe90E).

Will attempt using nightly.

Additional warnings in the last couple days:

Script: chrome://ublock0/content/js/vapi-background.js:1130
Script: chrome://stylish/content/overlay.js:46

Have not had an externally referenced javascript stall (eg: jquery) in the last week or so.
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:50.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/50.0

I have tested this issue on Windows 7 x64 with the latest Firefox release (47.0.1) and the latest Nightly (50.0a1-20160712030234) and could not reproduce it.
After installing all the add-ons mentioned in comment 3, I have created tab groups and loaded different websites in multiple tabs. The browser behaved normally, no hangs, script errors or other issues occurred.

Could you please see if the issue is still reproducible with a new profile? If it is not, try disabling the add-ons one by one until the issue is no longer reproducible, in this way you might be able to find the add-ons which are responsible for this errors.

I've been running both dev and nightly since the original needinfo, and have not had the script stalls recur in that time on either version. Doesn't mean it's not a problem anymore, as there have been extended periods where it didn't occur before, but at the very least it's less of a problem.

And then today I get a script stall. This occurred in Nightly, where I have no addons installed (other than the default system addons). I restarted it for today's update maybe 3 hours ago.

From the alert box:
Script: https://forums.sufficientveloc…js/jquery/jquery-1.11.0.min.js:3

Full URL for the script:
https://forums.sufficientvelocity.com/js/jquery/jquery-1.11.0.min.js
The exact text is "Unresponsive Script", no?
Summary: Scripts stop responding → Unresponsive Script [Scripts stop responding]
I am assigning a component to this issue in order to involve the development team and get an opinion on this.
Component: Untriaged → JavaScript Engine
Product: Firefox → Core

David is this gone for you in version 50?

Sorry for not getting back to this. It was still a problem a few months ago, but has not reappeared in the last few months. Can be considered closed.
