Steps to reproduce:

For years I have used Bcc to copy myself on all messages (set up in "Copies and Folders") and to send bulk mails to a List of Club Members. I made no changes to account settings that might have caused this problem (though I have since tried turning off, and then back on, a Bcc to myself).
To reproduce effects on my Thunderbird under A and B below:
A. Add a Bcc copy to a normally addressed mail.
B. Send a message Bcc only.
I am currently on TBird 45.1.1


Actual results:

Up to 20 June 2016 the Bcc facility worked fine. 

A. From 23 June the Bcc to myself on all outgoing messages (1) fails to arrive and (2) has been stripped off the message by the time the message arrives in the Sent folder (though it has always been in the address box). 

B. Sending by Bcc to a list is a more serious problem as the "Bcc" in the address box converts to "To" in the sent message so all addresses can be seen by all addressees. See attached file for screenshots (names part obscured) which show the sequence.


Expected results:

1. I should still receive messages that are Bcc to me. 
2. Addressees should receive Bcc'd messages with just their own names visible. 
3. The message in the Sent folder should have the Bcc, not To, against the Bcc addresses I used and my sent message, when it arrives in my Inbox should declare "Undisclosed-Recipients" as used to be the case.

I can't reproduce the bug. It would be a pretty severe bug if TB really converted BCC recipients to TO recipients. As you may not know, we have an extensive test suite that every release has to pass, so such a bug would be picked up an not released.

It is more likely that this is caused by an incompatible add-on. Please try again in safe mode (help menu, restart with add-ons disabled).

Actually, what happened on your PC between the 20th and the 23rd of June?

I notice you have a Microsoft "Live" email account. You might want to see my findings and conclusions about problems with the Outlook.com server after Microsoft migrated email accounts over to the new Outlook Mail host using new APIs. I should have added this to my post above because bugzilla #1279558 addresses one problem with Bcc and rex.andrew is asking about a second problem with Bcc - both of which I have experienced.

Take a look at a Microsoft Answers thread I started at http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook_com/forum/opeople-ocontacts/outlookcom-moving-addresses-from-bcc-field-to-the/b4505d03-7b66-4f98-a878-f1d82fcf42a6. I suggest you read the whole thread to see how hard it is to convince anyone that this is a real problem, and pay special attention to my post dated June 23rd, 2016 that shows the extensive testing I did to prove it.

Somebody at Mozilla must have some inside pull with Microsft to help get these major problems fixed.
