Application Verifier is a Microsoft dynamic analysis tool that looks for a variety of Windows-specific problems: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/dd371695%28v=vs.85%29.aspx It's worth trying this tool out to see if it produces useful information. If so, this bug can serve as a meta-bug for the found problems.
