I have now encountered two users in the last 3 days who have found that the Kaspersky Protection addon is causing extreme memory use.
https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/4v94ni/memory_leak_possibly_related_to_kaspersky/
https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/4uof5h/5_tabs_firefox_using_28gb_freezing_wtf/
The first reports 2.8gb-3.5gb memory usage with 5 tabs open going down to 0.5gb after disabling the addon. The second reports "1+GB" with one tab open (and just the one addon).
That user reports version 4.6.3-7 of the addon and shared a memory report which I'm attaching.
Kaspersky is a major antivirus provider and these addons are sideloaded. Many users will associate poor performance and crashing with Firefox itself. I ask that this addon is blacklisted for now. Whether we later find that Kaspersky or a change in Firefox is at fault, the building's on fire and it doesn't matter who started it. (At the very least the addon was not properly tested.)
One of the users reports the ID for the addon is:
light_plugin_ACF0E80077C511E59DED005056C00008@kaspersky.com
Additionally that user says that after disabling the addon and restarting Firefox, it was enabled again. They had to go into Kaspersky's advanced settings to disable it. Specifically: Click on Web Anti-Virus --> Advanced Settings --> Uncheck Kaspersky Protection extension. Restart Firefox.
(They also tried deleting the addon from the profile folder but it was reinstalled.)

Hello there!
Thank you for reporting the issue. Unfortunately the provided information is not enough to track roots of the issue down.
Could you please provide me at least the following information?
- version of Kaspersky AV software
- steps to reproduce the issue (websites to open etc.)
- does the issue remain on FF with the clean (new) profile?
- logs of Kaspersky AV software during the issue reproduction (how to enable collecting of the traces: http://support.kaspersky.com/11251)
Please feel free to contact me directly by e-mail with the requested information to speed the investigation up and to avoid all possible bureaucracy.
Thanks

Neither of the users were interested in helping with the requested information (one replied).
The one that replied, later reported that he could no longer reproduce the problem.
On the assumption that the issue is resolved I'm closing this bug.
