User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:48.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/48.0 Build ID: 20160726073904 Steps to reproduce: When opening an URL which is immediatly redirected, the URL is not stored in the history and therefor not available for auto-completion in the address bar. Actual results: 1. Opened http://hotmail.com 2. closed page 3. started typing hotm..., but "hotmail.com" is not contained in auto-completion list Please see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGGED9kIhzw for an illustration of the issue. Expected results: "hotmail.com" should be contained in auto-completion list

Tested on HTC One M8. Also tested on other browsers (Chrome, Safari) and the auto-completion is available. The issue is reproducible on Firefox following the above STR.

This is intentional. We found redirects pollute about:home and the search results from history and bookmarks. See bug 790305 for the implementation. probably a wontfix.
But regardless of the intentions when fixing bug 790305, don't you agree the current behaviour is confusing? For an ordinary users this means, for some URLs he will get auto-completion, while other URLs he/she we'll have to input over and over again - which is expecially cumbersome on smartphones. I was lucky to spot this is caused by redirects, I guess most normal users do not even know what a redirect is...
(In reply to Kevin Brosnan [:kbrosnan] from comment #2) > This is intentional. We found redirects pollute about:home and the search > results from history and bookmarks. See bug 790305 for the implementation. Bug 790305 is not applicable here, it is about dropping redirect destinations, not the source. Whatever user typed into the address bar is sacrosanct and should be retained.
