https://crash-analysis.mozilla.com/rkaiser/2016-08-03/2016-08-03.firefox.49.explosiveness.html [Tracking Requested - why for this release]: There is a startup crash in avmsnd.dll (AVM TSP Sound Driver) on Windows 10 that seems to be spiking in Aurora 49.0a2 builds starting on 2016-08-03. I'm not sure if this is related to Flash but this is crashing in the plugin process and Flash shows up in most reports.

Quite a low volume but it might spike in release. Anthony, Milan, not sure who could help with it? Thanks

I'm not sure what is driving the spike but it seems to be isolated to August 3. You can see the graph for yourself by going to http://ashughes1.github.io/metrics-graphics-gfx/, entering avmsnd.dll@0x3918 in the Crash Signature Lookup field and clicking "graph". You'll see that August 3rd saw a very big spike on a single day. I'm inclined to think this is an isolated incident that may be out of our control. However, I need someone else to look at this to confirm.
This is a sound DLL, so we could start there. If that gets us nowhere, this crash (https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/c1d77acc-818e-4b9a-b940-787e52160805) suggests sandbox involvement.

The number of installations is very small. (In reply to Milan Sreckovic [:milan] from comment #3) > This is a sound DLL, so we could start there. If that gets us nowhere, this > crash > (https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/c1d77acc-818e-4b9a-b940- > 787e52160805) suggests sandbox involvement. Looks like a Flash crash, so I'm redirecting to Benjamin.

These are all plugin-process crashes. I can't tell whether this is a real driver or malware. If it's malware, I'm happy to DLL-block, but otherwise I don't think it's worth effort to dive into this.

The crashes on 48 and 49 seem generated by a small number of users, for example on 48.0b10 there are 36 crashes from 1 installation.
We've had another spike on August 8th, but still all crashes are generated by a small number of users (e.g. 33 crashes from 3 installations on 49 Beta). All the reports have the same version of the avmsnd.dll library (2.4.0.0).
