Bundled libvpx in Gecko support VP9 already. For devices without HW VP9 decoder, using AndroidDecoderModule/MediaCodec/stagefright/OMX doesn't have performance & power consumption benefits and makes it more difficult to debug (especially crashes).
Benjamin already fixed this in bug 1286738.
