Details
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_10_5) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/53.0.2785.46 Safari/537.36
Steps to reproduce:
1. Visit http://mdn.github.io/pointer-lock-demo/ in Firefox
2. Click on the canvas
3. Click the dropdown arrow in the pointer lock popup
4. Select "Always allow hiding"
5. Press escape
6. Click on the canvas again
Actual results:
Pointer lock is not enabled a second time. It may be the case that the popup that appears again (the one that says "This site will now hide the cursor") steals focus and prevents the cursor from being locked, but I'm not sure.
Expected results:
Pointer lock should be enabled if "always allow hiding" is on. The pointer lock warning popup should not interfere with acquiring pointer lock.

I could reproduce this in Firefox 48.
However, this UI isn't present in newer Versions of Firefox anymore, so the bug doesn't apply there.

Firefox: 48.0, Build ID 20160726073904
User Agent Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.10; rv:48.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/48.0
I have managed to reproduce this issue on the latest Firefox (48.0) release and latest Beta (49.0b2). I have followed the provided steps and at step #6, the pointer lock is not enabled only if you close the pop-up using the "Esc" button or clicking the "x" button.
It seems that in latest Aurora (50.0a2) and latest Nightly (51.0a1) this functionality was changed and the bug is no longer reproducible.

The permission requirement has been removed in bug 1273351 which landed in Firefox 50.
I don't think we need to do anything for this bug as it would be irrelevant soon. I suggest we close this bug as WONTFIX.
