User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; WOW64; rv:48.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/48.0 Build ID: 20160823121617 Steps to reproduce: using a Surface Pro 4 (though I assume it's an issue with all touchscreen windows devices), go to http://planet.mozilla.org (or any site that has the horizontal scroll bar at the bottom) horizontal scrolling doesn't work using your finger, though vertical scrolling does work when using your finger
forgot to add: going to http://planet.mozilla.org in Edge and horizontal scrolling using your finger works fine as expected
Hi Will, and thanks for the report. Managed to reproduce this on a Dell XPS 12 All in one device so I am moving this to the right component. Instead of page scrolling, a text selection is performed. Also, this doesn't seems to be a recent regression since the same behavior occurs on Firefox 35.0. However, I have noticed that if you don't raise your finger while doing a vertical scroll, you are able to horizontal scroll also. Still, I don't think that this should be the normal behavior when it comes to touchscreen navigation.

this issue is now fixed! using v53 on a Surface Pro 4, the same device this issue was discovered on

Can you provide what page you saw the fixed behavior? I'm still seeing this issue on Surface 3.

Not fixed on Surface 3 with Firefox 53.0.2 64bit X(

Horizontal finger scrolling via touch screen works for me with latest 64bit Nightly (20170508030204) on Win 10 Surface Pro as well as with 64bit Firefox 53.0.2.
I just tried Nightly 55 64bit (on Windows 10 Creators Update) and it worked like a charm! XD
