Seeing the 'Replies to the thread "$subject" will not be shown' every time I ignore a thread is really annoying. The notification never goes away and there is no pref to disable it. There should be a "Don't tell me again" on the dialog or it should go away once to navigate away from the ignored thread. Even a pref in about:config would be acceptable but the other methods sound better in my opinion.

I should clarify that the main problem with this bar is that it lasts forever. Until you manually close it it continues to take up space at the bottom of the message window. If it was timed, or went away when I focused a different message it was fine. But I really don't want to move the mouse to click it away after I pressed the very convenient "k" hotkey.

I agree with reporter - this popup notification is really annoying if you use "k" a lot.
It's basically permanent in the UI...
If you want to give some visual feedback that a thread is ignored, perhaps you could make the text color grey-ish instead? (so that the thread looks "disabled" in the list) That would be a nice improvement regardless IMO.

A twist - I'd like to see it disabled only for mail, where I never intentionally use it.
