1299905 - Open new tabs next to their parent tab

Currently new tabs are always added at the end of the tab list - the idea would be to basically mimic what desktop is doing and always add new tabs next to their parent tab, so related tabs are grouped together.

We've talked about this before in various bugs here and there (bug 1089407 for example). But we don't have this planned for a future release ATM.

JanH, how do you feel this solves a user problem? I understand that it will then be what Desktop is doing. But on Mobile, we have our own model to consider too. The handheld form factor can be different to desktop too.

I don't have a really strong opinion on this, since I rarely have very many open tabs, but what I'd hope is that this would help to group related tabs closer together - especially as it's currently not possible to reorder tabs on Android, so as to reduce the need to scroll back and forth within the tabs tray.

How does this problem reflect when the browser is in tablet mode? Because the tab stripe in tablet mode mimics the appearance of the desktop browser, it make sense to have the tab stripe behave the same as the desktop counterpart in the location of placing new tabs.
