Starting from Daily build of 2016-08-27 <http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/nightly/2016/08/2016-08-27-03-02-23-comm-central/thunderbird-51.0a1.en-US.win32.zip>, Japanese text in email is displayed with odd font and it's very ugly. As far as I've tested, font settings are not changed from 2016-08-26 build <http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/nightly/2016/08/2016-08-26-03-02-02-comm-central/thunderbird-51.0a1.en-US.win32.zip>.

Oh, looks like the font or font size of text in dialog is also changed.
gfx might have changed something?

Maybe due to Bug 1007702.

Yes, you're right. Removing "skia" from "gfx.content.azure.backends" fixes this bug.
I'm not sure what should we do for this, though...

Looks like perhaps Skia may be ignoring embedded bitmaps in the font?

Not much TB can do about this I'm afraid. I hope Mason has a solution. There is already bug 1299903, but that's about the MS standard fonts.

Yeah, it's possible... (Although, I'm not sure.)

Does the display change when you turn HWA on/off? Please extract the message into a HTML file and view that in Firefox. I assume it looks bad there, too.

Do you have cleartype enabled?

I have not touched any gfx.font-rendering.cleartype* settings (so, all of them are displayed as default state in about:config). And of course, I enabled ClearType in settings of Windows 10.

Bug 1300025 should fix this. Can you please verify this in a day or two? Thanks!
