I've hit two issues with today's Nightly build: 1) Lots of random ¡ characters being rendered in place of whitespace, e.g. https://people.mozilla.org/~catlee/sattap/aae3994a.png. This seems to be intermittent. 2) Some password fields (okta in particular) seem to autocomplete, but without rendering the "*" characters, so they appear to be blank. Typing in them also doesn't produce any visual changes. Lumping these together since they seem to both be related to font rendering.

I wonder if those may be places where the content originally had a no-break space (U+00A0) for one of the spaces, rather than a "normal" space character, but I have no idea why they should suddenly appear as "¡".

What font does the DevTools element inspector's font panel say is being used, for the content where you're seeing this?
Liberation Sans or Liberation Sans Bold, from the system. I did upgrade a few pango packages on my system today, perhaps that's related?
That does sound suspicious. Any chance you can try rolling them back and see if that affects it? Also, do you have gfx.font_rendering.fontconfig.fontlist.enabled set to 'false', by any chance? If so, try resetting it (default should be 'true'), and re-launch the browser; any change?
gfx.font_rendering.fontconfig.fontlist.enabled is set to the default, 'true'. also, I haven't seen this issue with the latest nightly...but I haven't upgraded/downgraded any pango packages since my initial report.

fwiw, I haven't seen this in a long time.
