With the amount of trash that winds up in a news forum -- unless, of course, those nubile college girls are contributing to Mozilla development -- it would be highly desirable to hide threads or individual messages: i.e., since I can't cancel or delete the darn things, at least let me not have to look at them.
You can use the "Ignore Thread" feature to automatically mark a thread as unread, including new messages that may appear later.
This is exactly the reason why we have "Ignore Thread". Resolving as worksforme.
