The page gets dark when the video is loaded. You can't scroll anymore.
The video control remains on the screen even when you close the tab or open a new tab.
As you can see, there's an error message about the video not being playable in the browser. The page has already become dark.
The same happens if you close the tab with the video.
If you've already scrolled down a bit so that the awesomebar is not visible anymore, you're basically left with the only option to kill the browser (as you can't scroll up anymore).

Requesting tracking because this is clearly a very noticeable regression.

Hi Sebastian, this seems to be a pretty severe regression in Fennec 50 video playback. Could you please help find an owner who can investigate and potentially fix this issue soon? 50 hits beta channel this week.

This is HLS playback.
I think this bug is similar with bug 1301043.
Ni snorp to get his attention.

This bug is about "The page gets dark when the video is loaded. You can't scroll anymore.", more than the tabs part (which I agree is bug 1301043.

I can't reproduce this at all. For me the video loads fine, and if I hit the back button the page is usable. Switching the tab would also close the player. Is this different from what you're seeing Marco?

I can't reproduce anymore with ilfattoquotidiano.it, I can still reproduce with independent.co.uk (comment 5).

Nightly also crashed once, not sure if it's related: https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/6492c3c9-2965-4e45-a059-4c8eb2161003.

ilfattoquotidiano.it isn't using HLS anymore, this is why it isn't reproducible. Perhaps they've updated their Brightcove player (with the changes from https://github.com/videojs/video.js/pull/3586)?

I still can't reproduce this on independent.co.uk. I wonder if the video is just slow to load? I've been thinking we could have a spinner or something where the video appears.

Actually, it happens for me while the video is playing. The page is still loading
though, as I can see the orange bar under the location bar. It looks like the page
is never fully loaded actually, as the orange bar never goes away (look at the
first and second screenshot).

I also noticed that sometimes I see a slow script dialog.
Could you try to reproduce this?

Maybe you could also try with a few more newspaper websites.

Hey Marco,

I could reproduce this on a Sony Xperia Z2 with Android 5.1 on the latest Beta 50.0b6 but not very often, once out of 10 tries. I've played a video ( goo.gl/Z1ZXa0 ), and opened a new tab, the video in the first tab stopped but after a while it appeared in the new tab. perhaps a regression from https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1301043 .

Please keep in mind that https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1308205 is still unaddressed and maybe it's the cause of this issue.

Also, could you please provide more details regarding the device used, the build and the reproducibility of the behavior?
Thanks,

I can reproduce it consistently on http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/australia-says-there-will-not-be-a-brexit-trade-deal-with-uk-for-years-a7229366.html on a Nexus 5 with Android 6.0.1.

With the latest beta, at least I can close the video with the back button.
