130189 - font baseline incorrect for kannada fonts

The description here seems a little odd -- the Kannada fonts look like they have
an upper baseline, but the problem is, I think, that we shouldn't be trying to
align those two baselines together.

Then again, I don't know where to get any such fonts to test, and the problem
could vary between fonts.

I tend to agree with the assessment below. You can get these fonts from
the WinXP CD by choosing the Indic language support. It's an open type
font, not true type.

They can also be installed in the "Regional Options | General" part of the
Control Panel (as I just discovered).

Hmmm. Looking at the screenshot, it seems that the kannada font has one
"baseline" above which most of the characters lie (is this what is meant by
"upper baseline"?), but a few characters project below this and define the real
baseline, which is somewhat lower. In the screenshot, the Latin characters seem
to be taking the first "baseline" as their baseline, but on a Win NT 4.0 system
here, latest nightly build, they take the correct, lower baseline as their
baseline (so that the kannada characters appear elevated slightly in comparison
to the Latin characters, which I believe is correct). Arun, does this now work
for you?

Windows, so not sure where I can find the needed fonts...)
