I think we fail to kill the process here because it shutdown itself a bit before. I would need a debug build to be more safe with this assumption.
As it looks like this happens because we have an unexpected restart of Firefox at the beginning when it tries to apply an update. We should really have updates disabled which doesn't seem to always be the case. So lets wait for bug 1319024.
