+++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #1258152 +++
This issue has caused great grief in Thunderbird, but Firefox shows the same problem, so it is a core bug.
STR (unfortunately not determinate):
On a Windows 10 system, enable a slideshow background changing once a minute (This is only needed to generate regular focus events from the OS, other similar causes can generate the same effect).
In Firefox, move some tabs to a new window so that is a child of the initial window. After some period of time (typically hours), if the focus is in the child window and a slideshow transition occurs, the focus changes to the original parent window (as evidenced, for example, by entering alt-F on the keypad to drop down a file menu). Once it starts occurring, it occurs each time the slideshow transition occurs. If you restart Firefox, the problem goes away for awhile.
Driving us nuts in Thunderbird land since, with single key shortcuts, the consequences are more severe than in Firefox.
Firefox 49.0.1
Thunderbird 45.3.0
Kent, is this the same bug as https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1234317
Temporary fix until it gets fixed is to right-click on desktop > Personalize > Colors > Uncheck "Automatically pick an accent color from my background".
