I've read https://wiki.mozilla.org/Github, and need help with the following. I'm a mozilla employee, fjordano, with github user account: arcturus Planning to put some projects we are working on connected devices into the official mozillia repo. Cheers, Francisco
Sure, let me get a little background, so it will be easy for you to keep things updated. The "mozilla" org on GitHub isn't as much "official" as it is a "hodge podge of repositories". As near as I can tell, the CD org doesn't have much in the "mozilla" org right now, so it should be easy to set things up in a way that you can "self serve" most of the follow on needs you'll have. We strongly encourage folks to use "teams" to make repository access simpler. Right now, there appear to be two teams related to connected devices: connected-devices-design - 6 members and 2 repositories (E Hunt is maintainer) Connected Devices Engineering - 1 member, 1 repository (R Petty is maintainer) If your work naturally fits into one of those 2 teams, the easiest way is to have one of the maintainers invite you into that team. (They can indicate that by commenting on this bug.) If a new team would be a better fit, please suggest a name and maintainer. And have your manager approve in this ticket. Once the team is set up, you can start moving repos in. There is a bug in the current GitHub workflow, noted on the wiki page, so you'll need an org owner handy to get the permissions right after you transfer. It helps us if you coordinate the move in advance, so there is coverage available to minimize your "can't commit" time. Let me know how you'd like to proceed.

Hi Hal, thanks for the great explanation. We are working on different orgs already: https://github.com/mozilla-magnet/ But we are about to create a repo, for a url shortener service, that we understand that can be used broadly. That's the reason to ask for an user to put under the mozilla org. Also, looking at the repos in the mozilla org, I can find the vaani repos (at least 9 repos https://github.com/mozilla?utf8=%E2%9C%93&query=vaani). Related to the teams, the first one is for designers, and don't know about the second one. As well, we created another org for putting our project: (ble browser) https://github.com/mozilla-magnet But in this case the project that I would like to upload is a generic url shortener service, which could be use by anyone. Anyway, happy to follow your advice Hal. Thanks a lot!

Ah, TIL vanni is part of CD ;) Let's keep this simple: - I've invited you to the org: https://github.com/mozilla to accept - let me know the name of a team for this repo (teams are free) - transfer the repo (you may want to coordinate this as you'll loose access to the repo for a bit) - I'll setup the new team, make you the team maintainer - I'll add that team to the repo, and make you an admin for the repo.
