Steps to reproduce:

On new laptop (win 10 home), and desktop (win 7 pro), mail stopped sending. Thunderbird 45.4.0. Just started last week. Checked smtp settings, and still the same port. same user name, same outgoing server 


Actual results:

Mail comes in, does not go out. Pop up box states mail did not go out for unknown reason. Said to check outgoing server


Expected results:

Mail sent out
I believe the security requirements have been tightened as we had other people reporting similar problems, see for example bug 1274175 and bug 1276868 comment #3.

Test your mail server here: https://www.htbridge.com/ssl/ and report back the results.

There are some tweaks to preferences to force TB to lower its security requirements.
