I have just installed Mozilla 0.99 (build ID 2002031104) . Mail is now a pain.
Sometimes I do not even get the login to the mail server. Other times I manage
to login , but cannot access the folders other than Inbox. The usual message I
get is "Could not connect to mail server lisbsrv.portugal.sun.com ; the
connection was refused". I use LDAP
When I try to send mail I normally get the message "Sending of the message
failed. The message could not be sent because connecting to the SMTP server
failed. The server may be unavailable or is refusing SMTP connections. Please
verify that your SMTP server setting is correct and try again, or else contact
your network administrator"
If I try this with mozilla 0.98 everything works fine.

Reporter:
Do you use a proxy ?
If yes and your imap server is internal:is your Imap server in the no-proxy list?
Standard questions:
Have you installed Mozilla in a freh directory (not over an older build ?)
Do you see this with a new profile (run "mozilla -profilemanager" and create an
additional test profile)
Can you please generate a Networking Log ?

I get the same problem with 0.9.9+ (Win2000 Pro Russian). When I try to get
Mozilla news it says "could not connect to server". This happens both after a
clean install and installing over 0.9.8.

Hi
I really did not have my imap server in the no-proxy list.
I included it and now 0.99 mail works fine.
From a logical point of view the web proxy configuration should not interfere
with the mail

You must add it to the no-proxy list because we added Socks support for Mail&News.
Soem people must go over an Socks Proxy to get their Mail...
