Whenever I tell Mozilla News to Get Messages, it freezes.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Subscribe to a usenet group (any, but I'll say comp.lang.c++ for the sake of
standardization)
2. Click on a newsgroup (or the server) and click "Get Msgs" on toolbar or "Get
Messages for Account" from context menu.

Actual Results:  Mozilla (including open browser windows) freezes up. Windows
declares that it's not responding.

Expected Results:  News should get messages.

Can you try this on a later build?  ftp.mozilla.org/pub/nightly/latest, for

Hi there, are you by any chance using a leafnode server running on localhost, or
is this a regular ISP's news server?  Can you give me the server name and also
do 'telnet servername.domain.com 119' and see what the host returns?  Thanks!

No response, and this worksforme with build 2002-03-30-09, Windows 2000.

Sorry about the wait, I missed the previous e-mail.

The server is news1.nf.sympatico.ca, and when I telnet in, I get "200
209.128.1.3 DNEWS Version 4.6j, S0, posting OK".

Hmm...I figured I would run into a reverse DNS lookup.

When I try to open any NNTP newsgroup, then Mozilla correctly download the
number of old/new messages. However both the message browser pane and the
message pane remain empty 

If I click "Get messages", then all mozilla windows hang, TaskManager reports
all Mozilla windows as not responding, cpu load goes 100%, mouse pointer
freezes

Reproducible: always
Tested on e.g. news://netscape.public.mozilla.calendar.checkins

Note, that IMAP, and IMAPS work correctly.

It seems that I cannot connect to news://netscape.news.public.mozilla on host
news.mozilla.org (204.29.187.156), which seems to run 
"Netscape-Collabra/3.52 03615 NNRP ready" server

However, it reads just fine the same news group on news.chello.hu running 
some server called "Typhoon v.2.0.0", and whic hhas address range from
195.34.132.84 to .88. (I guess, that you cannot reach this latter server outside
from the Hungarian chello...

I am also seeing exactly what is described in comment #13, except for the
freezing mouse pointer.

I have to say, that a few days later, after removing the offending NNTP
accounts, then re-adding them, it just started to work when I have instructed
mozilla to download only the first 500 headers. 

Maybe the problem is due to those some 4-thousands-something headers in those
news groups
